Fourth of July Coasters

Just got these coasters made up this morning. Skyler and I were havin fun just making coasters. . .I think we will have them coming out of our ears soon :-) I placed these on Etsy as well - - if they don't sell, well, someone might be getting Fourth of July Coasters for their Christmas present :-)

Etsy

I am on Etsy - - Check it out here. I just got my shop created and I don't know how this will go. . .so I only listed one thing for now. . . here's hopin'!

Skyler's Painting

Here are two paintings that Skyler made for her teachers. I think they are cool - painting is one of those things I never did well at. . .so wanted to share these. The only bad thing is that we have to give them away. I asked her to please, please, please make me a Dalmation like this one :-) Great job Skyler!

Teacher Gifts

Megan Klauer's teacher gifts inspired me to get something done for Skyler's teachers. These probably took only about 10 minutes each to pull together and now I don't have to feel guilty. I bought these clipboards at Walmart for 97 cents and embellished with paper, thickers, a handmade chipboard turtle, ribbon, a page from a book - - and - - wa-lah. . .The only thought I had a little too late is that the clipboards will be slightly difficult to use as the thickers and other embellishements will make writing a little bit of a bumpy task. . .however, if you know me at all, you know I don't do things twice - so these puppies are goin as they are :-)

Fawn Finders

Last night Skyler and I were hiking in the woods and came upon this beautiful fawn. What awesome little creatures! This is the second spring in a row that Sky and I have found a fawn together. . .just call us the fawn finders :-) We called Paul and my little brother, Dasan, who were hiking elsewhere in the same timber and told them we had something to show them. As quietly as possible, we all got to check this little guy out before he got too nervous to stick it out any longer and took off on tiny, wobbly legs to lay down further away from us - - we then left him alone. So glad we are fortunate enough to get to do what we love - exploring timbers and fields on a regular basis. . .we would miss it so much if we couldn't!!

Turkey Fan

Here is a pic of the turkey fan mounts that Paul does - this one happens to be Skyler's (hanging in her room, of course). I think he does a great job - - it sure is great to have our own personal taxidermist. . .otherwise we couldn't afford to hunt!! He is great in sharing his knowledge with others - he has taught so many friends how to do the European mounts for deer as well as these turkey fans.

I won, I won, I won :-)

I went to The Scrap Review and posted a comment for a chance to win this fabulous book and - - Yeah me - - I am one of the lucky winners!! Can't wait to get my hands on this book and learn some helpful hints for my photos!!

Aaron's First Turkey

Don't wanna leave the guys out (even though this is mostly a girl blog :-)

Paul and Aaron went out turkey hunting yesterday morning and - - - - success! Aaron got his first turkey! Paul called in more than one bird which makes it a little nerve wracking - but in the end Aaron got the job done. Great job guys!

Blossom and Cutie

Our family has been watching two little eggs in a Sparrow's nest in one of the trees in our front yard. Yesterday morning we discovered that they finally hatched! Here is a picture Skyler took of the new little birdies. They have officially been named: Blossom and Cutie

Megan gets her Thanksgiving meal ready on Mother's Day

Congratulations Megan on her first turkey!! Megan got her first bird on Sunday, Mother's Day. We went out together with the plan that I would call, she would shoot - and if there was a second Tom, we would try for a double. I was a little worried that morning when the only gobblers we heard were so far away we could just barely hear them, one gobbler was way to our north and one way to our south. I didn't think they could probably hear my calling and I was getting a little (okay, a lot) frustrated. However, apparently the box call was loud enough. I had done quite a bit of calling (more than I would normally do) and Megan and I were sitting in our blind - chatting - if you can believe that :-). Suddenly we heard a gobble in the timber close to us and I told Megan "that bird is close, you better get ready." The Tom we had heard so far to the north was coming in to find that sexy hen he had heard talking just a few minutes before. This Tom and a Jake emerged from the timber. The Jake just ran out like a crazy bird across the field (teenagers, I tell ya), but the Tom had some business to tend to and he came straight for our hen decoys. When he was 20 yards out Megan shot and he went down immediately. Thanks to Paul for scoping out this hunting spot a few days before when he shot his turkey at almost the exact same spot.

How exciting to get to watch your friend shoot a bird!! I think my heart was pounding out of my chest. . .knowing she really would like to get a bird. . .knowing how much effort she had already put into trying to get a bird - and knowing this was probably her last day to hunt turkeys this year. . .phew. I'm so glad we decided to go out together - what a great Mother's Day.

"GOODWIN" Photo Art

- - GOODWIN - -

Here is my latest photo art order that I filled today. This frame says GOODWIN. I like the letters that she chose - but I do hope to get some more pictures soon to have more options for customers to pick from.

Paul's Turkey w/a bow

Paul did it again. . .Here is Paul's turkey he shot with a bow and arrow this morning. He's the first person I know to use something other than a shotgun. Great job Paul!! Paul's turkey weighed 20 pounds, had an 11 inch beard and spurs were 15/16th of an inch.

The Tooth Fairy

The tooth fairy came again last night - - ninth time she has been to our house since Skyler was born. The odd thing is that this time she left a $10 dollar bill. . .much more than ever before. Was she rushed? Did she maybe almost forget to leave something for this special tooth? Were morning alarm clocks ringing so that she had to grab whatever she could to make it in and out of our house unseen? We may never know, but she did leave a note which Skyler found after her shower. . .maybe that explains it. :-)
